Abstract

An experimental study to determine the chemical nature of substance that induces transformation in pneumococcal types

Background. For many years biologists are trying different chemical methods to induce specific changes in microorganisms that can be transmitted as a hereditary character. Aim: The present study is conducted to find the chemical nature of the substance that induces the transformation of different types of pneumococcal. A stock laboratory strain of Pneumococcus Type III (A66) is used as source material to obtain the active principle. Methodology: From Type III pneumococci, deoxyribonucleic acid was isolated that can transform unencapsulated R variants of pneumococcus type II into encapsulated type III cell. The unencapsulated R strain was obtained from a Pneumococcus Type II virulent culture. The culture conditions that were required for the process of the transformation were nutrient broth, serum fluid, R Pneumococcus strain, and extraction and purification of the transforming principle. The procedure involves material sterilization that was done by alcohol use as this has no effect on activity followed by the centrifugation, and heating process for 30 min at 65°C. Heat-Killed Cells were then extracted and washed with saline. Removal of capsular polysaccharide was done followed by alcohol fractionations. Results: In this study among 4 four different variants that were isolated only R36A was susceptible to the potent extracts transforming action. Quantitative titrations have shown that only 10- 15% of active material was lost in washing. Different analyses such as enzymatic and serological analyses along with electrophoresis, ultraviolet spectroscopy, and ultracentrifugation show that the active fraction contains no protein, serologically reactive polysaccharide and unbound lipid. It consists totally of viscous highly polymerized desoxyribonucleic acid. The results presented in this study showed that nucleic acids possess different types of specificities as demonstrated by the selective action of transformation. The results also showed that material transforming activity is an inherent nucleic acid property but for a biological specificity chemical of its action is also important. Qualitative chemical analysis was carried out. Biuret and Millon test results came out to be negative and the Dische diphenylamine reaction was strongly positive. Conclusion: The results presented in this study showed that a nucleic acid of deoxyribose type is a fundamental unit pneumococcus type III principle.

Introduction

The article “The Myth of Welfare’s Corrupting Influence on the Poor” argues on the controversial subject on how the poor tend to exploit the resources provided to them through the government aid system (Porter, n.p). This article written by Eduardo Porter focuses on the above issue implicitly. His position on the claim made in the article is supportive as he discusses the reasons why these claims exist otherwise. He talks about low-income families and underprivileged children becoming unemployed and illegitimate because of welfare. He claims that handouts to people make them lazy and so they should either try to earn or get used to suffering. There are many facts which state otherwise, such as the payments made to single mothers and how it stayed the same even after 20 years. The inconsistency in work done by people due to welfare assistance has become evident, and hence claims that it should be concealed.

Discussion

Identification

There are many underlying facts and figures represented in the summary of this article as it talks about the pros and cons of welfare dependency. Adults mainly are responsible for sabotaging the welfare schemes such as SNAP, Medicaid, or Free Housing provided to them by the government or self-regulating welfare associations. To some extent, the claims made by the author in this article are valid as adults often tend to deceive the idea of welfare through minimizing opportunities for themselves. There are so many points stated by the author in his article as he talks about a billion people participating in the social safety net, or the tangible benefits of welfare to children's education, income, and nutritional status. Moreover, he talks about the significant barriers in support of children with physical or mental disabilities. These examples develop the main idea which the author is trying to represent in his article.

There is enough support in the claims made by the author in convincing the audience that welfare reforms corrupt the poor. The audience portrayed by the author is the poor and underprivileged ones who are constrained from resources. There are so many qualities presented by the author in this essay which reflects on the central issue of welfare making people either self-sufficient or lazy. The identified significant barriers to care are something that is present in the communities and thus requires attention from the government and welfare organizations. The labor market and the less educated one draw more extensive attention from the colossal deficit gap but need extra care in terms of fiscal support. Most people in the article have stated welfare entitlement as a dubious practice, and thus need poor people to struggle with life support instead then given aid.

Conclusion

After reviewing the article and making the aforementioned response, my reaction to the author's claim is uncertain. Financial aid or welfare reforms help economies to a considerable extent, and there are so many statistical evidence present to show how vital this concern is for people to overcome. I do not find common ground with the author's claim on leaving the poor to struggle and drown for the rest of their lives but rather show them a pathway from which they can achieve more significant and more valuable things for themselves. What's new in the essay for are the facts presented by people on how dubious the practice of welfare can become for the poor. There are many things which I like about the article, such as creating more significant wage subsidies through expanding earned income tax. Cash assistance to the poor can create many opportunities for both the people and the economy as a whole.

Introduction

Drug addiction is becoming quite common among the young generation, in modern times. It is a serious issue among teenagers as well as adults. It is notable to mention that drug abuse in young generation pose greater hazard as their brains are not yet fully developed. Mostly, the young generation is attracted to drugs, in order to appear attractive and cool. They want to prove to the world that they are grown up now and they possess the potential to lead their lives, according to their choice. However, they offer to develop addiction due to overuse and the influence of the bad company. They overlook the fact that they are becoming dependent on the drugs, which are impacting different aspects of their life. Drug use may appear quite attractive to the young generation; however, drug addiction not only causes them physical and psychological health issues but also impacts the social life of the youngsters and has long term effects on their life circumstances.

Discussion

Drug addiction causes physical and psychological health issues to the young generation. Most of the time, the young generation is attracted to drug use to enjoy being high. They think that they would be able to feel more calm, and energetic. However, they overlook the fact that the use and addiction of drugs cause long term health consequences, which are not just limited to their physical health but also to psychological health. Drug addiction impacts the functioning of the brain, as well as heart and lungs, which can cause the death of a person as well (Arnett 238). Moreover, it can make the youngsters suicidal, as they feel depressed and experience hallucinations. Nearly 95% of all the violent crime on college campuses are associated with the drug abuse (Wilcox).

In addition, drug addiction impacts the personal and social life of the young generation. When a young person becomes dependent on the drugs, or even just starts using the drugs, he feels that he is on the right path. The drug lets them get high and overlook the stresses of life, which is a great escape for them. However, their family and friends keep stopping them from this escape. The drug addiction impacts the personal and social life of the addicts in the way that they think all the people have turned against them, as they keep telling them not to use the drugs. They think that drugs are their best friend and other people are unable to understand them. They take the advice of their loved ones negatively and hurt their feelings by abusing and hurting them. They start losing interest in different aspects of life and start depending more and more on drugs, as well as the company of drug addicts. Drug abuse is also seen as acts of rebellion. Regardless of being aware about the detrimental impact of drug abuse, young generation is not willing to stop as it makes them even more attractive (Arria 27). It is notable to mention that young generation is involved in drug addiction as the thought of doing something risky adds to the excitement. They are unable to keep a healthy relationship with their family and friends, which hurts them as well; however, they keep denying it.

Drug addiction has long term effects on the life circumstances of the young generation. Drug addiction is one of the biggest hurdles which impacts the bright future of the young generation. Addiction to drugs affects the functioning of the brain, due to which addicts are not able to concentrate on their studies and continue their education. They often cut their ties with their families and friends as well, while depending only on the company of drug addicts. Most of the times, the addicts do not want to get treated, which worsens their living conditions (Arnett 241). They lose interest in developing their career, family, and waste their remaining assets on drugs. Moreover, their physical and psychological health conditions also keep deteriorating, which can cause their eventual death. Increasing numbers of drug addiction is related to increased incidence of crime and corruption and it is also decreasing the economic development of a country. Drug abuse and crime are directly and highly correlated at the most intense levels of drug use, which significantly amplifying the criminal activities in young generation (Bachman 21). The detrimental impact of drugs alters the functional development of young adults and results in intensive hallucination, which forces them to involve in criminal activities. The statistics have shown that four of every five young adult’s arrestees are under the influence of any drug (Bachman 22).

Conclusion

In conclusion, drug addiction has the most deteriorating effect on the life of many young generations and it is a bad problem which society needs to be eliminated. Mostly they start using drugs just to check them, however later become dependent on them. They sacrifice their physical and psychological health for the sake of fulfilling their addiction. They also cut their ties with friends and family, by thinking that they are not being understood. Drugs addiction impacts their brain functioning, due to which they are unable to develop their career and establish their family, as their top priority is drugs, instead of career and family. This problem is growing worse; therefore, many schools should offer drug education. Young people should do own research to learn about the real risks of substance use and the benefits of recovery. The young generation can share what they have learned with friends, family and their community. Eating a balanced diet and exercising regularly is another way of preventing drug addiction. Being healthy and active makes it easier for young people to deal with life stresses.

Argumentative Essay Proposal

Only drugs were considered Addiction initially, but it has got too many forms in the contemporary century that the scholars have started research on this subject. Almost every person appears addicted to some drug, activity, game, or anything else. Its influence upon such a large number of people has appealed to me to research and write on this subject. My argumentative essay will attempt to prove that gadgets are more dangerous addiction than alcohol and it causes more harm to the human psyche than opium. This is a topic of wide scope and I will attempt to unveil sophisticated faces of this phenomenon before I start arguments.

Research Sources

This is the age of technology and eBooks are available online on every topic in abundance. I will focus on two websites Google Scholar and JSTORE. Both the sites are credible sources to approach scholarly research articles and books. David A. Fisherman has written a comprehensive article on the consequences of Addiction. Sanjeev Davey and Anuradha Davey’s article analyzes the effects of gadgets on Indian youth. Andrew Hough has done a comprehensive study on addiction to gadgets. He compares it with drug addiction. Kirill A. Martemyanov disagrees that gadgets are harmful (Lassila, Ora, and Mark Adler. 2003). I will study all these articles prior to writing my analysis. They all are available on the Google Scholar website.

Argumentative Essay Structure

My essay will follow the traditional essay structure of writing Introduction, Body, and Conclusion paragraphs. My Introduction paragraph will start with a catchy Hook sentence to appeal to my reader. After elaborating on the first sentence, I will write a clear thesis statement. My thesis statement sample is noted down below:

Thesis Statement: “Gadgets addiction is more harmful than drug addiction because the addicts of gadgets do not realize that they are addicts rather they call it just a normal activity that is normal in no way.”

The thesis statement will pass the discussion to Body paragraph using connecting sentences. The body segment of my essay will consist of four paragraphs (Savastio, Rebecca. 2011). The first paragraph will solely focus upon the explanation of Addiction and its various forms. This issue appealed to me because almost everyone is addicted to gadgets, but the problem is that gadget addicts do not understand the gravity of this issue and they just call it a social habit conformed to the contemporary age. This paragraph will claim that gadgets are harmful to mental health.

The second paragraph of the Body segment will dismiss my claim and will argue that gadgets are boon, not bane (Anirudh, B. V. M., Gayathri, R., & Priya, V. V. 2018). This paragraph will use shreds of evidence from the article of Kirill A. Martemyanov. The next two paragraphs will counter this argument and I will attempt to prove my claim right quoting the other mentioned articles. Finally, I will rephrase and rewrite my thesis statement to remind the reader about my argument. I will conclude the article hopefully claiming that I have proved my thesis statement with pieces of evidence.

My essay will be written for academic purpose and it will be presented for that person but I will argue in such a simple and concise way that ordinary literates will also learn much about the subject after reading this article.

A physical or psychological inability to stop consuming a chemical, drug or any other substance is called addiction generally. Addiction is not related only to consuming any substance rather many activities become addiction eventually when a person does it in routine. Everyone warns about the effects of cigarettes on the throat, lungs, or teeth, but the smokers do not care. It is because they do not consider the effects of smoking on these body parts rather they consider its effects upon their minds. But this could be a nonsense argument for a non-smoker. Professor Koob has examined addiction from a different angle. He has co-authored this article with a known American neuroscientist Le Moal, M. This article attempts to explore the stages of addiction. Everything that becomes addiction at a stage is easy to be getting rid of in start. Every addiction is directly concerned with our minds more than anything else. This article is specifically about drug addiction and the authors attempt to learn when and how a drug becomes addiction. They find that mostly a drug is taken voluntarily, but then it becomes an addiction. A method of Allostasis has been proposed to cure the addicts. The article highlights some difficulties in applying this method and then suggests some methods that can be used to apply it successfully. The article is typical of Prof. Koob who uses biological diagrams and tables to elaborate his argument. Le Moal’s neurological research study enhances the reader’s knowledge about the topic. Medical students also learn much from this comprehensive research, especially the students of neurology. The language has been ornamented with medical and psychological terms, but an average literate person can also read and learn much from this article. Many researchers of this topic cite this article and review it for their research purposes. I gave this article a thorough reading and it enhanced my knowledge and understanding about addiction as well as human brain structure.

Among the principal driving forces in our contemporary lives, technology takes up a central role in shaping and transforming us to an unprecedented extent. In the world around us, technology surrounds everyone or everything, while it keeps on evolving and developing. Like others, children too are enamored with it. Some of the ways technology affects children will be further explored in the paper.

The impact of technology on children’s lives has arguably been positive; however, it has also brought significant concerns. A key concern with regards to digital technology is that it has deteriorated children’s ability to process information at a deeper level. This is a result of a proliferation of information sharing platforms that expose children to terabytes of information each day. The vast amount of information at their disposal is known to reduce their tendency to process or comprehend it a deeper level, while the effect is further compounded by the presence of digital media, television, computers and video games. These forms of media play on their genetic biases and present to them visually appealing information that captivates their minds to the extent that they lose interest in other useful activities.

A number of studies in this regard have jointly arrived at the conclusion that an increased exposure to video games and media which depicts action and violence increases the likelihood of children engaging in aggressive behavior. As a consequence, they are desensitized to violence and create a false impression of the nature of the world within their minds. Although, a number of educational video games along with games that involve physical movements exist; however, children remain drawn to inappropriate and violent programs, shows and games to a considerably large extent. Furthermore, as communications' technology advances, real-world socialization has been replaced with chatting and texting on digital devices that brings with it a range of psychosocial issues that adversely impact their lives. While, a number of beneficial technologies are helping students engage with educational material at home and school; however, the content they are mostly exposed to as a result of these devices and platforms is one that plays on their tendency to seek excitement. It thereby leads to frequent releases of the chemical dopamine inside their brains that leads them to crave and become an addict to faster and more exciting action CITATION Hut13 \l 1033 (Hutchby and Moran-Ellis). As a consequence, they frequently feel ‘bored’ from routine activities and often demonstrate an inability to focus attention on something for too long.

Similarly, technology can affect cognitive development in children. The internet has allowed children access to a plethora of information through their gadgets and devices at a very young age. Consequently, it has started to impact their thinking abilities, for instance, their ability to memorize or retain information CITATION Sch08 \l 1033 (Schmidt and Vandewater). Other researchers have found that frequently interacting with objects on a screen engages a child's ears, fingertips and eyes to respond to screen prompts; however, during this engagement the remaining portion of the child's brain, emotions and body remain passive, even as the connections between fingertips and eyes strengthen from the interaction CITATION Hut13 \l 1033 (Hutchby and Moran-Ellis). 

To conclude, it is not difficult to see that the significance of technology will continue to grow even further in our lives. Yet, parents can still have considerable control over which technology to expose their children to, and at which phases of their lives. With the much-acknowledged benefits that technology provides, there are sufficient grounds to argue that certain forms of parental monitoring and regulation are necessary to minimize its adverse effects on children.

Adoption among Same-Sex Couples: Argumentative Essay

When people announce they are going to have children, the normal reaction that they get is “Congratulation!” However, when they announce they are going to adopt a child, they get a very different reaction. Depending on the situation, the reaction can vary. If you are choosing to resort to adopting a child after suffering through multiple fertility treatments and are still failing to conceive, then you will be met with understanding and empathy. If you choose to make life better for a child out there, then you will be met with admiration. Both facts only reign true if you are a heterosexual couple, and you are going to bring a child into a traditional, socially accepted family unit of a father and a mother. However, if you are a same-sex couple, looking to adopt, or even foster a child, the reaction you will meet is very different. No matter how forward-thinking we become, to this day we continue to discriminate against same-sex couples. We may have given same-sex couples the legal right to marry one another, but we are far away from accepting them as a family unit in our society and refrain from discriminating against them on social or legal grounds.

With these many kids awaiting adoption, it is inhumane to deny people that can give them a loving and nurturing home the right. Lawmakers, by enforcing laws that discriminate against same-sex couples are adversely affecting a child, more so than the homosexual couples wanting to adopt them.

In Tennessee alone, there are about 9000 children waiting for a loving and nurturing home. Most of these children age out of the system and end up being homeless and on the streets since they do not have the nurturing system required to rehabilitate them into society. Denying people the right to foster kids based on their religion and lifestyle alone is plain wrong. Especially when there are so many kids out there is a disgrace to a system that works to ensure that these kids live a happy life. Unfortunately, Tennessee is also one of those states where discrimination against same-sex couples was legal, as was the right to deny the adoption of a child.

Lawmakers have permitted 10 states and their state-licensed welfare agencies the legal right to refuse the placement of children with same-sex couples if it is in conflict with its moral or religious beliefs. This law was applied in North Dakota back in 2003, while it was enforced in Virginia in 2012. These states include Mississippi, Michigan, Alabama, South Dakota, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas.

While the 10 states permit this “state-sanctioned discrimination,” LGBTQ and ABA advocates are of the view that parenting is getting more difficult for same-sex couples in the presence of laws and policies concerning such couples. Such laws and policies are not in the best interest of the child — especially those in the child welfare and foster care system.

There are more than 440,000 children in foster care nationwide, with more than 120,000 of them awaiting adoption CITATION AFC16 \l 1033 (AFCARS). Children up for adoption are usually neglected or abused, thus they are put into the care system. These kids are special and different. They have been through a whole lot more than most adults in a similar situation and may suffer through psychological issues and developmental delays as a result. A vaccine is, in fact, the biological preparation of the body for the possible disease. It provides the required immunity for a particular disease. A vaccine is usually made up of an active agent that is similar to the microorganism that causes the disease. This microbe or microorganism is usually in weakened or dead form. It can either be the actual microbe, the toxin present in it, or the protein present at the surface of the microbe.

One of the very common and most prevalent diseases, that can be seen in current times, is cervical cancer in woman. It is the second most common cause of death among females, in the cancer family.The main agent behind this deadly disease is the “Human Papilloma Virus” (HPV). The following research paper will look into the details of the vaccine available for HPV and why it is extremely important for medical professionals and people in the United States. It will also provide arguments as to why this vaccine or drug should not be banned and pharmaceutical companies should keep producing it until some better vaccine is formulated.

Discussion

Human papillomavirus is one of the most prevalent viruses, currently in the United States. There are currently 20 million people who are infected with it and 6 million people get infected every year. It becomes one of the main causes of Cervical Cancer in females. HPV does not show any clear symptoms and is not easy to detect in a body (Agosti). The presence of the virus in the body becomes evident, when a person contracts some disease. Most of the time the disease is serious and usually the person is unable to treat that medical condition. The presence of this virus can be detected with the use of some simple medical tests.

One of the biggest reasons that are presented by the parents to avoid HPV vaccine, is the fear of side effects. Parents fear that their children will develop some serious medical issues after the shots are being administered to their children ("The HPV Vaccination Programme | Topics, Sexual Health, Young People's Experiences | Healthtalk.Org"). Many high schools have reported that the parents of their students have strictly prohibited the school administration of getting any shots administered to their children. This restriction has not only been seen in the case of HPV vaccine, but every other vaccine as well.

No matter what the reasons are to ban the highly effective vaccine for HPV, the reasons for not banning always outweigh it. One of the most obvious and biggest reasons is that it fights against the viruses like HPV, that cause deadly diseases like cervix cancer, vaginal cancer, oral cancer, cancer of the vulva and anal cancer. One of the biggest reasons for not banning the vaccine, especially among teenagers, is that it has been deemed necessary for the health of youngsters and adolescents by the Department Of Health And Prevention in the United States of America. Most of the medical professionals and doctors working in the area of cancer treatment, recommend the use of the vaccine to prevent various issues in later life.

If HPV is banned and is not administered in the bodies of the individuals at a very young age, it can not only increase the risk of Cervical Cancer but many other types of cancers and viral diseases like anal cancer, oral cancer, and many others. Apart from decreasing or eliminating the risk of cervical and many other forms of cancer, the use of HPV at a young age can increase the fertility rates among the females (Giuliano). Females, that had received the shots of HPV vaccine in their teen years, showed to have much more healthier children as compared to the females who never had the shots or irregular patterns of the shots.

In a nutshell, it can be seen that HPV vaccines are not only important but very essential for a healthy life. A huge difference has been seen in the life quality of the individuals who had received the shots of the vaccines compared to those who had not. HPV vaccine reduces the risk of Cervical Cancer. It not only reduces the risk of cervical cancer but also many other types of cancers like mouth cancer, anal cancer, and cancer of vulva etc. The vaccine has also been approved by the Department of Health and it is recommended by medical specialists to use this, despite many fears and reservations shown by the parents of the children. It is the need of the hour, that awareness should be created among the parents and other individuals about the effectiveness and importance of HPV vaccine and why its use should be made prevalent.

He seems as if someone is all set to go to the office. The text supports the perception that we get through the first look of the visuals. As the text says that the product is for everything except the cooking as that is the duty of the wife and the attire of the wife supports the view. Through this sign and text coordination, the message of the advertisement is conveyed and the attention of the audience is grabbed. Through the advertisement, the product manufacturers want to convey the message that the gadget that they have produced is a multitasking machine for kitchen use, except the cooking as it is the task that only the wives can do. The visuals and texts are elaborating and specifying the message.

The advertisement is effective in conveying the message to the audience that they wanted to spread for the publicity of the product. They took the most common and the prevalent notion and made the use of it to generate the advertisement. For this purpose, they made use of the visuals and the texts and both worked in coordination to fulfill the purpose. If I had to change anything in the advertisement I would love to change the concept of the gender role in it. The gender stereotype that the wives are supposed to cook only is rather too sexist. I would change the word wives to humans and the picture won’t be displaying a happy wife wearing a hat rather both the males and the females wearing aprons and the chef hats in the kitchen. This way the gender equality would have been promoted, and the element of gender bias will be exempted.

The ad shows the best example of logos in which the speaker or the character appeals to logic. The use of facts makes the service of the insurance company look reasonable. The character in the ad is placed in a situation in which he uses the logical solution for the problem. At the beginning of the ad, the character meets different people and he observes them closely to know about their needs. With his logical solution, he puts the plant under the falling water so that the plant can get benefit from it and also people can walk from that side without getting their clothes dirty. The basic fact that believing in good, giving money or helping people in any way without any personal concern is how the advertiser uses logic to depict the benefits of an insurance company. The insurance company uses the technique of logos to show the interest, advantages and benefits of the company.

The advertiser uses the technique of ethos in the ad. It invokes the superiority of the character. The character in the ad aims to convince the audience that the ad is ethical, reliable, and can be related to the benefits of the insurance company. Although the character is not a public figure or internally known, the concept he delivers is inspirational. The concept of belief in good appears authoritative, convincing and trustworthy by the character. The character in the ad is a common man who goes to work daily. On his way to work, he does little deeds of kindness with the people he meets. At first, he meets a working woman and helps her to move her heavy cart, then he gives a piece of chicken to the dog. Similarly, he helps a little begging girl and an old woman living in an apartment alone. He believes in doing well without any personal concern. This concept reflects the idea of the service that the insurance company is providing. To build trust among the audience and to persuade them, the insurance company uses the technique of ethos in the ad to show the honesty, strength and benefits that they will provide.

The element of pathos is strongly used in the ad. The ad convinces the audience through emotions. The use of pathos appeals to the senses and shared experience. The advertiser uses pathos to pull heartstrings and make the audience feel. The ad shows a common man who is not rich but helps others because he believes in good. He not only helps people but is also very kind to plants and animals. The advertiser somehow tries to depict the quality of the character as the reflection of the services the insurance company is providing. Other people who are in the ad are poor and some of them are old. The picture of an old lady, working woman, and small begging girl arouses great emotions among the audience. The most appealing thing of the ad is a begging girl and the old woman living alone. In the end, the ad shows how his help worked out for the girl. All the little money he gives her helps her in the end as she makes good use of that money by going to school. This is how the insurance company wants the audience to believe in their services. This technique appeals to the audience's basic emotion, such as sadness, pity and happiness. The ad does not only evoke emotions or feelings but it also anticipates the responses.

As advertisement is the source of communication, it is important to create an ad that can appeal to the senses. The ad successfully reflects and shapes the culture. It is culturally, morally and ethically appreciate able to help others without any personal interest. The effectiveness of the ad is shown when ethos, logos, and pathos are used to evoke the audiences. The ad, “Believe in Good”, uses a mixture of persuasive techniques effectively. The ad promotes the benefits of the insurance company through the message of doing good without any personal gain. The exceptional qualities of the character are the picture of the services that the insurance company is giving. In the ad, the advertiser mentions that the character is not rich, he will not appear on T.V for doing all this but still, he helps people without any reason. And what he will get? He will receive emotions. The motto of the ad is “receive what money can’t buy”, although the ad is about the insurance company. They know the best way to attract people towards things is to appeal to their emotions. Characters of different ages are shown in the ad because the insurance company wants to promote the idea that people of any age can benefit from their company. The emotional connection of other characters with the main character builds up the persuasive message for the audience.

However, on the other hand, advertising with erotic overtones, in certain cases, can also cause negative emotions. In this article, the author claims that sexuality is basic content of advertisement in these days.

In this article, the author claims that the positive and negative aspects of the role of sexuality in advertising as a method of psychological influence on human consciousness. In modern advertising with sexual overtones, along with the goods, certain values ​​and attitudes are “sold”. For example, it is often the idea that the use of a particular product is immoral, but the law does not prohibit it, which adds special importance to the purchase. Demographics

It will target aged baby boomers who have monthly incomes of $75,000- $100,000 per year. The customers are married and acquire at least education of college level.

Psychological factors the advertisement include specific texts that directly target the aged baby boomers. The texts like “why we have aging baby boomers in business” will create persuasion for the targeted customers.

This assignment is aimed at reflecting the key objectives of the Labor Party Australia. The text will attract the Australians desiring to have better Medicare policies, a healthy environment to live in, cheap resources, economic growth, rights to everyone, and healthy living environment. The targeted audience of this advertisement includes parents, employees, female workers, underserved individuals, individuals desiring climate stabilization and patients requiring improved Medicare policies.

As far as the language is concerned, I preferred using simple English so that individuals with varying ethnic backgrounds could comprehend it easily. The advertisements use an attractive title for persuading the audience. The rhetoric tools used for capturing the attention of the audience include logos, ethos and pathos. The party logo is integrated for providing a demonstration to the viewers. Ethos is another selected rhetoric tool that would enhance the credibility of information through linking it with rational, authentic and valid sources. This makes it more persuasive for the viewers by providing rational grounds to their decision-making. Political agendas are often based on rationality and logic; hence ethos would be used to add ethical appeal. As subheadings, I highlighted the key objectives of the Party, through which people can come to know how the Labor Party is focused on bringing change in Australia.

I used multiple font styles, colour, text boxes, and visuals to attract people with different interests. I utilized the psychological facts for making the vision more appealing; bold and larger sized fonts to grab the audience’s attention. The red colour is used in the background with white text that makes it readable. A normal font of 14 is used so it is easily readable. Bright colours like red, yellow and green are used for adding attractions for the viewers. Psychology based evidence strongly supports that colourful and novel stimulus is successful in drawing audience interest through eliminating the elements of boredom and monotony and making their eyes to perceive something unique and interesting.

I used convincing text in the advertisement with the highlights of what the Labor Party aims to do for Australians. For example, the ethos was used as a persuasive strategy in which the logo and objectives of the Labor Party were presented in an attractive manner. According to Aristotle, when any credible figure, object or event is presented as a reference tool to convey some message; it becomes more valid and authentic information for them. When it becomes authentic, more individuals allow it to modify their preexisting set of cognitive schemas or thinking patterns. This alteration in thinking patterns is the key factor in estimating the extent of behavioural change. This is what we call revolution at the public level. Hence, using the Party logo and objectives as a basis to convey the message in the advertisement will not only make the advertisement effective but also produce constructive changes among the audience.

While developing the advertisement, I focused to use effective words such as words highlighting the significance of the change, striking the audience’s interests and their future apperceptions. For example, individuals who do not possess appropriate income resources and suffer chronic health issues at the same time will undoubtedly find the Medicaid objectives highly captivating. For the youngsters who are worried about the pessimist future of the Earth and want to mitigate the climate change would seek satisfaction through reading the problem objective indicating the same issue. This is how I used effective words and phrases as thought-provoking agents. Moreover, the Labor Party has various planning strategies for various individuals that need to be highlighted therefore I first highlighted the stimulating title, then party plans and objectives.

Pathos is incorporated for adding emotional appeal. The visuals of a mother and baby are added in the advertisement for evoking emotions among the audience. I used convincing text in the advertisement with the highlights of what the Labor Party aims to do for the Australians. For example, ethos was used as a persuasive strategy in which the logo and objectives of the Labor Party were presented in an attractive manner. According to Aristotle, when any credible figure, object or event is presented as reference tool to convey some message; it becomes more valid and authentic information for them. When it becomes authentic, more individuals allow it to modify their preexisting set of cognitive schemas or thinking patterns. This alteration in thinking patterns is the key factor in estimating the extent of behavioural change. This is what we call revolution at public level. Hence, using the Party logo and objectives as a basis to convey the message in advertisement will not only make the advertisement effective but also produce constructive changes initially at micro level.

While developing the advertisement, I focused to use the effective words such as words highlighting the significance of change, striking audience’s interests and their future apperceptions. For example, individuals who do not possess appropriate income resources and suffer chronic health issues at the same time will undoubtedly find the Medicaid objectives highly captivating. For the youngsters who are worried about the pessimist future of earth and want to mitigate the climate change would seek satisfaction through reading the problem objective indicating the same issue. Active listening skills help an individual to develop effective interpersonal relationships with others. Majority of individuals take their active listening skills for granted assuming that others know that they are listening to them appropriately (Janusik, 2017). Active listening is not just about listening to others’ words rather it encapsulates accepting criticism in constructive way, dealing with others’ feelings and struggling to understand what others think and expect. I applied following techniques in a recent conversation and the results were expectedly effectual.

The first technique of active listening is paying close attention to the minute details of one’s conservation and holding response time appropriately. This is because attention is the first step in memory development and when nothing is being added to conscious memory; we cannot remember and respond to it (Janusik, 2017). I listened to my friend attentively and tried to communicate the same. I tried my best to not to interrupt him and allowed him complete his sentences. However, I started formulating answers in mind soon after he started speaking but I did not utter any words while he was talking.

The second technique that I applied was being non- judgmental and open towards new perspectives, ideas and new possibilities. I did not react desperately when he presented some contradictory thoughts, opinions and feelings. Although I had stronger arguments yet I suspended judgment, held criticism and avoided arguments that might create unfavorable environment for further conversation. Being judgment will hinder his ability to talk freely such as if he says I lied because of certain reasons; if I instantly label him as liar, he would feel uncomfortable and would suspend further argumentation.

It is very important to make others realize that we are on the same page regarding topic under discussion. Reflecting upon their feelings is the third effective technique of active listening. I did not assume that I understood everything correctly rather I mirrored the information presented by him by paraphrasing some key points periodically. Emotional responses are also very important in this regard. For example, when he felt enthusiastic about something, I also manipulated my words enthusiastically so that he could understand that we are on the same page.

The fourth technique that I used is clarity; I did not hesitate while asking questions when I found something unambiguous or unclear. I used phrases like “let me see if I am clear....” “Am I guessing it correctly”, “Please wait a minutes, I think I did not follow you.” Asking questions not only helps use clearing our ambiguities but also makes the counterpart realize that we take taking keen interest in what he is telling (McNaughton et. al., 2007). Such phrases helped me making sense of the conversation so that I could respond accordingly. Besides this, I found probing, clarifying and open- ended questions very effective in making my friend realize that I am listening to him attentively.

Fifth technique is restating the key themes extracted from the conversation which solidifies and confirms the gaps between our points of view (McNaughton et. al., 2007). I presented a brief conclusion of the conversation in the end which helped clearing on follow- up and mutual responsibilities. I summarized what I listened and perceived and asked my friend to communicate his thoughts and feelings about my understanding. He then acknowledged either I deduced appropriate meaning from his conversation or not.

By using above mentioned techniques, I intended to gain clearer understanding of my friend’s perspective as I listened and responded to him appropriately, introduced my ideas, suggestions and feelings regarding matter under discussion. I also added similar events that happened to me in the identical contexts and communicated what I did or felt about that and did this response contributed to the positive outcome? What could have done alternatively if my response did not support favorable consequences? We both attained a clear picture of where we both stand regarding problem matter and how this problem can be solved? What we tried, what needs to be tried and what must be tried; our conversation turned out to be a problem- focused talk in the end.

This conversation was completely different from other ones with the same person because I used to disrupt him instantly, could not wait for my turn to respond, ignored the emotional component and demonstrated judgmental attitude towards him. He used to suspend conversation, stop talking and show agitation towards me. However, at this time, he continued talking till the very end and we have had a productive talk with each other. It was the first time we came up with a mutual opinion with a problem- solving orientation. We did not mess up with our own views rather we listened each others’ viewpoints appropriately with an open attitude.

These skills are quite essential for others to develop productive conversation in an amicable environment where everyone could share his ideas freely without any fear of being judged. It will affect my future interpersonal relationships in a constructive way because the concept of active listening is what relates directly with the psychology of individuals. It is based on the principles of psychology that how can we influence each other through our verbal and non- verbal gestures and orientations. I will try to apply some other techniques of active listening such as Validation, Emotional Intelligence, Problem Sensitivity, Courtesy, Professionalism, Transparency, Humility, Integrity, Confidence, Empathy, Compassion, Vocal tone, Sensitivity to Religious and Ethnic Diversity and Self-Awareness to strengthen my interpersonal relationships through conversation.
